Rotterdam – Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen starts today with ticket sales for Snakken naar Boijmans, the one-off opening of the construction site that the museum building is now. Tickets cost 10.00 euros and can be purchased from now on, admission is free for children under the age of 18.

Longing for Boijmans celebrates the museum’s 175th anniversary with a special art tour through the monumental building, which opens for this occasion from June 1 to July 7. After these five weeks, the building will close again until its reopening in the distant future.

The program is not yet complete. Boijmans does promise the following:

A unique stained glass by Jacoba van Heemskerck will hang at the old entrance. Matthew Barney’s groundbreaking performance from 1995 comes back to life. The duo FreelingWaters (Gijs Frieling and Job Wouters) creates a contemporary ‘salon arrangement’ that nods to the painting collection.

Artist Christien Meindertsma will also provide a grand piano made of felt – made with the wool of Rotterdam sheep! – to be in the building. Video work, images and decorative objects made of glass or porcelain are shown from the collection. A painting by René Daniëls can be seen in a special climate box.
