BREDA – The Breda art collective Zut Mon Sac has managed to raise thousands of euros to bring a riso printer to the city. More than 9,000 euros were donated.

There is a large artist community in Breda, but no Riso printer was publicly accessible. And that had to change, thought art collective Zut Mon Sac. They started a crowdfunding campaign, and with great success. The target amount has been amply achieved.

What is a riso printer?
A riso printer works based on a screen technique, comparable to screen printing, but in a printer. “He applies a design to a master using a thin layer of wax, which then ends up on the paper via the ink roller. The riso printer uses special Japanese rice ink for printing, which is made from soy beans. This ink is largely water-based, making it a sustainable technique so that we do not destroy the earth with it. This method of printing produces very bright, distinctive colours. The ink is pressed through small holes, which not only makes the colors bright and vibrant, but also creates a unique texture in the prints,” explains Zut Mon Sac.

“There is a large artist community in Breda, but no Riso printer is publicly accessible. We will be the first in Breda and one of the few places in Brabant where everyone can come and print riso. People can follow workshops with us and use the riso printer. A riso printer is suitable for multiple art disciplines, so multidisciplinary artists can use it. A riso printer is sustainable. We can publish publications, zines and other printed matter, both our own and for others. We bring together people with a shared interest in printing, creating a community!”, the collective wrote on its crowdfunding page. And that message was heard. The target amount was reached within two weeks. The printer, which Zut Mon Sac has named Riso Rinus, can therefore be obtained.

The counter now stands at more than 9,000 euros. Zut Mon Sac has now increased the target amount from 8,795 euros to 9,675 euros in order to also be able to purchase an additional ink drum. Donating is therefore still possible.

Zut Mon Sac is very happy with all the donations. “We are completely surprised that we achieved 100% within 2 weeks! This means that Riso Rinus is a fact and that we can start printing! Thank you very much for the donations!”
