Xpeng’s delivery program currently mainly consists of larger models, such as the G6, P7 and G9. But in all likelihood there will be a compact hatchback or crossover, specially designed for Europe.
In the southern Chinese metropolis of Guangzhou, home of Xpeng, we spoke with product boss Alan Ma. “Our SEPA 2.0 platform is quite flexible and can be used for all types of cars, from the A-segment to the E-segment.”
Smaller Xpeng for Europe
According to Ma, Xpeng is seriously considering station wagon models and compact hatchbacks for the European market. “Those smaller models have already been designed,” he says. Ma does not want to say whether that means there are sketches, or whether the design has already been frozen.
Brian Gu, CEO of Xpeng, is more cautious in his statements, but indirectly confirms that more compact cars are being developed. “For the time being, we are also using our Chinese models for the rest of the world,” he says. “I think it is still too early to say anything concrete about the next step.”
G6 after the summer holidays
In the Netherlands, Xpeng supplies the P7, a sedan that is between the Tesla Model 3 and Model S in terms of length, and the G9, a large, electric SUV. After the summer holidays, the G6 will be added, a crossover with the same dimensions as the Tesla Model Y.
In China, Xpeng has just introduced the X9, a huge MPV of almost 5.3 meters long. This makes it 40 centimeters longer than the largest Xpeng to date, the G9. By the way, the P5 is also still in the price list in China.
Failed market debut
Xpeng hoped to debut that model in the Netherlands two years ago, but that did not go as planned. The reactions from the press to the P5 were not pleasant (our own Dries van den Elzen was also not happy about it), so Xpeng decided to strategically withdraw.
