Meryl Streep will be honored at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. The actress receives the honorary Palm for her contribution to the film industry. The multiple Oscar winner will be a guest during the festival to receive the award.

It is only the second time that Streep visits the festival on the French coast. In 1989, the American star took to the red carpet for the film Evil Angels, which won her the acting award.

“I am honored beyond words to receive this prestigious award,” she said. “Winning an award at Cannes, where so many great makers come together, is one of the highest achievements you can achieve in cinema. To be able to stand in the shadow of my predecessors makes me humble and excited at the same time.”

The 74-year-old Streep is considered one of the greatest living actresses. Her film resume includes classics like Sophie’s Choice, Out of Africa, The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia! and The Deer Hunter. According to festival director Thierry Fremaux, “Meryl Streep is part of our collective imagination and our shared love for the medium of film.”

The Cannes Festival takes place from May 14 to 25.
