A large fire broke out at a bus shed in Westraven in Utrecht last night. At least 15 buses went up in flames. The fire service has been deployed with large equipment to extinguish the fire. Several units from the region fight the fire.
At the moment, the fire seems to be under control, reports the spokesperson for the Utrecht Security Region. The fire brigade keeps the other buildings wet to prevent the fire from spreading.
On the A12 The Hague towards Utrecht, the exit at Kanaleneiland is closed due to the fire. Traffic is directed into the city. For information on bus timetables, travelers are advised to follow @UOV for up-to-date information.
Two buses were on fire when firefighters arrived. The flames spread to two other buses. Then things went fast and about fifteen articulated buses were on fire. Nothing is yet known about the cause.
The VRU advises local residents to keep windows closed for the smoke, but there are few houses in the area. The bus shed will not be operational until 2021. At 7:20 am the fire marshal signal was given. No one was injured in the fire, the VRU reports.
