The Trinitarios, a criminal group from the Dominican Republic, is increasingly active in the Netherlands. This violent gang, which originated in New York, is known for murders, extortion and drug trafficking. A recent arrest of a fugitive member reveals their growing presence and activities in the Netherlands.

In a recent collaboration a fugitive member of the Trinitarios gang has been arrested in Amsterdam between Dutch and Dominican authorities. The man was reported for attempted murder and possession of weapons.

The case started in February 2017 when a young man was shot near a nightclub in Madrid. According to investigators, the victim was a member of a rival gang called “Dominican don’t Play.” The perpetrator, a member of the Trinitarios, opened fire after a confrontation inside the club.

After the shooting, the suspect managed to escape and went into hiding. A European arrest warrant was issued, which ultimately led to his arrest in the Netherlands. There the suspect had built a new criminal life under a false identity. However, fingerprints revealed his true identity as the Spanish suspect.

Dutch authorities worked closely with the Dominican police to determine the location of the fugitive. After it became known that he might be in Amsterdam, the Dutch ENFAST unit (Expertise Network Favored Operational Support Teams) was called in.

This specialized unit, which focuses on combating serious and organized crime, managed to track down and arrest the suspect.
