A fire in a distribution center in Oss that has been raging since Friday morning is still not out. The fire only grew bigger during the evening. Around 11 p.m., about 250 firefighters from across the region worked to extinguish the fire.
Extinguishing takes so long because the seat of the fire is in a large cold room. Fire extinguishing water freezes, making it slippery and making it difficult for emergency services to do their work. The fire brigade is also trying to prevent the fire from spreading to another company building.
The smoke from the fire can be seen from tens of kilometers away. Images of the smoke clouds come from Nijmegen, almost thirty kilometers away.
There are reports from the region of people who have found flying particles in their garden or roof, including from solar panels. The municipality of Oss warns that they can be sharp and asks everyone to only clean them up wearing gloves. The municipality asks farmers to keep their livestock indoors for the time being because of the smoke development and the particles that may be in the grass.
Five people who live around the distribution center spend the night elsewhere.
