Former international Maartje Paumen is the new head coach of the Tilburg hockey players. The former assistant coach takes over the duties of Ageeth Boomgaardt, who immediately leaves the relegation candidate.
Paumen must save Tilburg from relegation from the Tulp Hoofdklasse Dames. With two games to go, Tilburg is tenth, which means a place in the play-offs.
Last December, Paumen announced that he would stop as Tilburg’s assistant coach at the end of the season. She then said it was time for a new step.
Ireen van den Assem will assist Paumen at the end of the main league season.
Large value
Paumen was a playmaker for the Dutch team for many years, especially under national coach Max Caldas. Her penalty corner was exceptional and led her to two Olympic titles (2008 and 2012), two world titles and eleven national championships with Den Bosch. Paumen played 235 international matches for the national women’s team, for which she scored 195 goals. This makes her the top scorer of all time.
Paumen started her coaching career in 2018 in the promotional class at MOP in Vught. She then started working at Tilburg as an assistant coach and is in her fourth season with the major leaguer.
