A committee will investigate abuse and sexual violence in the French cultural sector. The French parliament unanimously approved a proposal to set up the investigative committee on Thursday.

The decision followed several requests from Judith Godrèche. The French actress was present at the vote on Thursday and was visibly emotional when the proposal was adopted.

The committee will focus on different parts of the cultural sector. The commission’s task is to “assess the situation of those working in film, audiovisual, live performance, fashion and advertising”.

The aim is also to “identify mechanisms and shortcomings that enable abuse and violations”. The committee must also make recommendations.

Earlier this year, 51-year-old Godrèche accused directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon of sexual abuse when she was a teenager. The actress sued Jacquot for rape.

Actress Isild Le Besco has also accused Jacquot of rape. According to French media, a preliminary investigation has been opened against the two directors, who deny the accusations.
