In the Australian city of Perth, police shot dead a 16-year-old boy after a knife attack. The teenager had recently stabbed a passerby in a parking lot. That man was seriously injured, but is now in a stable condition in hospital.

The police assume it was an act of terrorism. The boy was already participating in a program for radicalized youth, after warnings about him were received from the Muslim community. In addition, he had called 911 shortly before the incident to say that he was going to use violence.

Authorities say the boy acted alone. Police believe the threat is over now that the boy has been eliminated.

More violence

It is the third violent incident in Australia in a short period of time. In mid-April, a deranged man stabbed six people to death in a Sydney shopping center, and two days later a Muslim boy attacked an Assyrian Orthodox priest during a church service.

According to police, the latest attack was also an act of terror. Six acquaintances of this perpetrator were arrested because they may have played a role in that attack. They are all still in custody.

The wave of violence is remarkable because these types of violent incidents do not occur often in Australia. Firearms laws are strict and stabbing weapons are prohibited in public places.
