In ‘Rich, Dirt Poor’ a rich family is confronted with the tight budget of a poor family, while the poor family is allowed to experience the luxury of the rich family’s generous budget. This time Wim’s wish comes true, because he can go to Graceland, the estate of his great hero Elvis Presley, at the expense of the rich Jeremy and Tommy.

For Tommy from Apeldoorn it was love at first sight when he met American Jeremy. He even moved to the United States for him, where they now enjoy a luxurious life like true divas. Tommy gained (international) fame through his appearance in Geordie Shore and Prince Charming. Today he owns his own management company, where he manages models and influencers. Meanwhile, Jeremy is successful in the real estate sector.
They exchange their lives and luxurious house in the American city of Memphis with Wim from Maarssen, who had a difficult childhood because he was abused in the past. “Sometimes I got hit with a piece of wood,” he says candidly. Elvis Presley’s music has always helped him through difficult times. Years ago, Wim suffered medical problems due to a fatal accident that meant he could no longer work. After the break with the mother of his children, he ran into financial problems. Despite his financial worries, he has now found support from the Portuguese Bella.
For Wim it is a long-cherished dream to go to Memphis, because his hero Elvis Presley lived there and is buried there. He is therefore eager for the adventure Very rich, extremely poor to enter into. “I never expected this,” he says, tears rolling down his cheeks.
Just before he and his girlfriend Bella leave for America by plane, he lays out the weekly budget of 70 euros on the kitchen table for Tommy and Jeremy. That scares the men. “A few days ago we spent $120 on fancy ice cream,” says Jeremy. In Memphis there is no less than 2,553 dollars ready for the entire week. “That feels very strange,” Wim says in surprise. “We are actually experiencing a dream week.”
Wim’s dream came true on the first full day. He and Bella go to Graceland, Elvis Presley’s estate. There they can see how Elvis Presley lived, learn more about his groundbreaking music and finally visit his house and grave.
It was a day to never forget. “I enjoyed every moment,” he says enthusiastically. “So much came back to me. So many memories. That really did me good.” But as he got closer to Elvis Presley’s grave, he became increasingly sad. In his youth he had so much support for Elvis and his music. “Elvis took away my sadness.”
Once back at Jeremy and Tommy’s house, Wim cannot believe his luck. “This is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to us.” As icing on the cake, Wim also knelt on the famous Beale Street that week. In addition, Bella can choose a wedding dress at Jeremy and Tommy’s expense. What a party!
