The government of the German state of Berlin is concerned about the villa of Joseph Goebbels, the infamous Nazi Minister of Propaganda. The state is responsible for the maintenance and security of the villa, but no longer sees fit.

The villa and its 17 hectares of land have been a hot potato for the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the federal government for years. Berlin now hopes to put an end to the issue once and for all by giving away the now dilapidated villa.

“If there is a party that wants to take over the house: please do. See it as a gift from the state of Berlin,” Finance Minister Stefan Evers said this week. Interested parties are asked to come up with proposals that take the costs of maintenance into account, reports Deutsche Welle. It is not known whether private individuals can also show interest.

If Berlin is unable to get rid of the villa, the house will be demolished. “The plans for this are already ready,” Evers said. Goebbels’ former villa dates from 1939 and is located in the Barnim national park, just outside Berlin. The piece of land on which the house was built was a gift from Adolf Hitler.
