BÁNDABOU – Tragedy strikes the beautiful Hofi Mango National Park in Curaçao, after heavy rainfall caused a dam to burst and caused extensive damage. Jandino Asporaat, who set up the park with his brother Kenneth, expresses deep concern about the situation and calls for urgent action to prevent further disasters.

“Our manager and his young family were evacuated just in time. We sympathize with all the victims of Bándabou and hope that this disaster will be limited to this enormous material damage and will not claim human victims,” Jandino shared with concern on Instagram.

To many, it is no surprise that recent events are linked to long-term neglect of the dams and infrastructure on Bándabou. “Many of you know that because of our love and responsibility to Curaçao, we have been advocating for years that there should be a thorough repair and maintenance plan for the dams and harvesting on Bándabou.”

“We have put blood, sweat and tears into Hofi Mango over the past five years to create a beautiful national park and invest in Bándabou. If the necessary measures are not taken around us, this is important for the infrastructure and safety of the area. It is literally drooling with the tap open,” Jandino emphasized.

Today’s tragic events highlight the urgent need to take action. Jandino has already spoken to Prime Minister Pisas and offered his support to help tackle the situation.

“I spoke to Prime Minister Pisas about the seriousness of the situation and that we are ready to support and take action. The problem has been pushed forward for decades. Not tackling it will now be fatal to us. Now let’s join forces and solve it once and for all,” Jandino urged.
