An escaped zebra has been found again after an adventure of almost a week in the American state of Washington. Together with three of its kind, the animal escaped from a trailer on Sunday. The three were quickly captured, the fourth has only now been found.

The zebras were transported from Washington state to a petting zoo in Montana. When the driver stopped to check the trailer, the animals escaped. Initially they grazed next to the highway. To avoid getting caught in traffic, motorists formed a kind of fence along the road with their cars. Then the zebras left.

They passed a restaurant, walked through residential areas and ended up in someone’s backyard after a few hours. They could be captured there. But the fourth zebra, named Shug, jumped a fence and ran away.

‘Zearch’

Occasionally the zebra appeared on wildlife cameras in the forests. As a search was launched, Shug turned into something of a celebrity. The local media reported extensively on the ‘zearch’ and the zebra appeared frequently on social media.

Of course, there were also concerns. Cougars live in the area and the animal could be frightened by the strange environment it was in.

The zebra was found on Friday in the town of North Bend and was captured by animal rights officials with the help of residents. According to animal protection, the animal is in good health.
