In Bari, Italy, a four-month-old baby has been hospitalized with alcohol poisoning, the daily reports ‘La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno. The grandmother had mixed up a bottle of water with a bottle of wine.
The grandmother said she mistook the wine in a dark bottle for water when she was preparing baby food for her four-month-old grandson. After drinking a small amount of the diluted baby food, the baby refused to drink any more.
The baby’s mother realized the mistake and went straight to the emergency room at Perrino Hospital in Brindisi, where the baby was immediately given gastric lavage. The baby was then intubated and transferred to the Giovanni XXIII Children’s Hospital in Bari for intensive care.
According to local newspapers, the baby’s life is no longer in danger and his condition is stable. Local authorities believe it was a stupid mistake and not intentional. Nevertheless, the police are investigating.
