I learned at HBO back then, even before this AI hype, that the definition of AI differs whoever you ask, with probably the most universal: “AI is anything we perceive as smart”. Imho still one of the best definitions I’ve heard. Including the example that once, a mouse icon that itself switched between click and text-type icon was AI, but now completely normal and according to many people not AI.

Right now, AI is just a buzzword. But other than that, it’s not really all that special. Complex, that’s for sure. Interesting, that too. Dangerous, that light on the application. But in the end, AI is also just code, which ultimately turns (a lot of) switches on and off (provided we ignore quantum computing, but that is not yet the case here).

Anyways, point is. The term “AI” is difficult to define. A lot of things I hear in the news don’t feel that special or AI-worthy to me. Anyway, AI is popular and debunking is difficult when the definition is already debatable.
