Many media in Brazil are now writing about who the young woman was. In one of her last videos, which she posted to her TikTok in mid-October, the 23-year-old can be seen with hearts over her eyes as she sings Taylor Swift’s “Timeless.”
In another post, she can be seen with friends performing the song ‘You’re On Your Own Kid’. In her latest post on Instagram, she writes that she is counting down the days before her dream comes true: attending a Taylor Swift concert live.
No water inside
Ana Clara was a real Swiftie, as the real fans are called. She even had a small tattoo, which she shows off here:
She was at the front of the Nilton Santos stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Friday evening. She became unwell due to the heat just before the concert. In Rio de Janeiro the perceived temperature was around 58.5 degrees.
There were 60,000 fans in the stadium. Many of them complained about not being allowed to bring water inside. Taylor Swift herself handed out bottles during the show, as can also be seen in videos:
Ana Clara was resuscitated on the spot, after which she suffered a second cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital. There she died. After Ana Clara’s death became known, it was decided to postpone the second concert in Rio de Janeiro. The organization indicates that it will hand out water and deploy additional staff at the second show.
“I am writing this from my own dressing room in the stadium. It has been decided to postpone the concert due to the extreme temperatures in Rio,” Swift wrote on her Instagram. “The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow artists and crew are always my top priority.”
Swift also said she was “overwhelmed with grief” over Ana Clara’s death. “This loss is very deep and my heart is broken. My thoughts go out to her family and friends,” she added.
After her family announced that she had died at Salgado Filho Hospital, messages of support poured in from around the world.
One of the most beautiful people
A friend says she had been talking about the show for weeks. “I was so happy that you were at the concert. I just can’t believe you’re gone,” Thiago Fernandes told Brazilian news site Folha.
A friend wrote on social media: “I refuse to believe it. I will always love you! Thank you for everything! You are without a doubt one of the most beautiful people I have ever met.”
The young woman was a loyal Swiftie and studied psychology at the Federal University of Rondonópolis (UFR). The university has declared three days of mourning. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our student Ana Clara Benevides Machado.”
One of her friends is hoping for a tribute for his girlfriend at Taylor’s next show. “That she will appear on the screens with her photo.”
