Maan tells her story exclusively to Vogue

Maan has been, and rightly so, a darling of the Dutch music world for years – it was not without reason that she graced the cover of the July/August issue of Vogue, together with her beloved Karel. After last year’s festival season, we didn’t hear from the singer for a while. That turned out to be for a good reason. Now Maan is back. Lost in the traffic and road signs in Japan, one thing became very clear to me: maybe I’ll take a different tack. The voice that I have suppressed for so long is finally given space to speak. It’s not that I don’t like my old music anymore, but I’ve outgrown it.

It’s like that one dress you’ve been saving for for a long time. You walked past the shop window again and again, lost in thought. How will it look on me? How do they react at school? After saving for a long time you can finally buy it. You have never been so proud, she fits like a glove. First you wear the dress sparingly, only on galas and first dates. Then sneak to school, during dinner and walking the dog.
