American singer Britney Spears has reached a settlement with her father, Jamie Spears, regarding the settlement of her supervised release. American media reported this on Saturday.
The settlement puts a definitive end to a long-running battle over the artist’s curatorship. Neither side has released any details about the exact terms of the agreement, which follows more than two years of legal battle.
The pop singer was placed under guardianship in 2008 due to her mental health, giving her father control over her financial affairs and crucial parts of her personal life. Although a judge reversed that decision in 2021 after thirteen years, major disagreements remained between father and daughter Spears about legal costs and the transfer of guardianship, among other things.
Only after Spears spoke openly about her negative experiences under guardianship in the summer of 2021 – she felt abused and begged for liberation – did the singer from Mississippi slowly but surely regain perspective. She received public support for her situation, including the hashtag FreeBritney online and even physical demonstrations from her fans.
