These are the best apps and games of week 13 in 2024

Time for this week’s best Android apps and games. This week we kept a close eye on the news for useful, fun, striking and funny apps and games, so that you don’t have to be bored for a moment on your Android smartphone or tablet. Enjoy reading!

1. Google Wallet – Google Pay now also available at SNS, ASN Bank and Regiobank

There is a good chance that Google Wallet is installed on your smartphone. This allows you to pay contactlessly with your smartphone at shops, which is super handy. However, are you with SNS, ASN Bank or Regiobank? Then maybe you didn’t use the app. That is changing now, because those banks now also work with Google Pay.

You can add your bank card to the Google Wallet via your bank’s app. Once set up, you can hold this at a payment terminal in the store for contactless payment. Don’t be afraid that criminals can now read your bank card more easily, because you have to unlock your phone to make a payment. Have fun paying!

2. GeoGuessr – find your location on the map without Googling

Anyone who likes puzzle games or a good detective series will undoubtedly enjoy Geoguessr. In this game you are dropped at a random location on Earth and you have to figure out where you are – based solely on Google Street View information.

To get the highest score you have to find exactly the right location, but you can make it as difficult as you want. For example, with timers or limited movements you can make. Play alone and take your time or compete against other players online. Lots of fun!

3. Road Sessions – stay relaxed and friendly on the road

Suppose you are driving in your car on the roundabout and someone wants to drive on it just before you. Of course you honk, shout and curse profusely. Have you ever suffered from such things? road rage or – loosely translated – road rage? It turns out that music has a major influence on this. The louder the music, the more aggressive you become.

Peugeot thinks it has the solution for that. The Road Sessions app was created together with the Dutch developer Robot Kittens. Thanks to a range of specially selected music, you can drive to your destination more calmly and safely. This way you keep your cool behind the wheel. Have fun driving!

5. Zoom – new design for your video calls

Anyone who studied or worked from home during the Corona crisis has heard of Zoom. The online meeting service still exists and has been provided with a great update this week that makes the app clearer. Various functions can now be found together under the heading ‘Workspace’.

Zoom: More than Meetings

This Workspace will have a new design, simplified taskbar and a new navigation system in the application. A new AI assistant has also been introduced. The so-called AI Companion can collect and summarize information from meetings, emails, chats and notes so that you can focus on your colleague on the other end of the line. Have fun meeting!

Crazy about making apps? Visit the Appril Festival

Just before we start: are you an app developer and would you like to learn more about coding, catch up on apps or network with potential employers? Or are you just crazy about apps? Then visit the Appril festival from April 17 to 26. The festival consists of various events, workshops and activities in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

For example, learn everything about developing efficient UX and UI designs in Figma, find out how to make smart use of ChatGPT when coding, learn how your design process can be even better or go to the Maritime Museum for fun.

April festival without year

There are still great events planned after April. In September, for example, there is a workshop where you can create the most beautiful art in two hours with the help of artificial intelligence. Check the festival schedule on the website for detailed descriptions and to purchase tickets.
