The investigation into the incident with Joost Klein on Thursday at the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden is being accelerated. This is what the police in Malmö told Swedish media. The police expect that prosecution will be initiated. The decision on this is expected in early June. Usually such a decision takes 6 to 8 weeks.

According to the Swedish police, this accelerated procedure is due to the fact that there is “strong evidence” against Klein, who was excluded from participating in the final in connection with the incident. The police do not say what kind of evidence that is.

Threatening movement

AVROTROS issued a statement this weekend about the incident that took place before the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster said that Klein was filmed by a camerawoman “against clear agreements”, just after he had stepped off the stage at the semi-final.

Klein had said he did not want to be filmed. After the camera woman continued to film, he made a threatening movement towards her. According to the broadcaster, Joost Klein did not touch the camerawoman.

Despite consultation with the EBU, it was decided to disqualify Klein. AVROTROS called the measure disproportionate.
