A 16-year-old suspect involved in the assault at Bijlmer Arena station earlier this month will be detained for 30 days longer, a spokesman for the OM confirms to AT5. The boy is still suspected of attempted murder. The custody of a 15-year-old suspect will be suspended on Monday. A total of 11 suspects were arrested after the incident. “At the moment there are still 3 (two 16-year-old and one 15-year-old) detained,” said the OM spokesperson.
In addition to the 16-year-old boy who must be detained for 30 days longer, it was announced earlier this week that another 16-year-old suspect must also be detained for 30 days longer. He is being held on suspicion of public assault.
Last May 8, six minors were arrested by the police. The minors – between the ages of 15 and 17 – were all suspected of the assault at Bijlmer Arena station. Five of them turned themselves in after the police showed unrecognizable images of the suspects. A seventh suspect reported to the police a day later, on May 9.
On May 11, two more suspects were arrested by the police for assaulting a man at the station. These were 12 and 13 year old Amsterdammers. On May 16, two more underage suspects reported to the police. This time it was a 12-year-old from Purmerend and a 15-year-old from Amsterdam.
A total of eleven boys were arrested for the assault at the station on the evening of May 5. The abused victim is still missing and has not reported to the police.
Pushed on track
In the evening of May 5, a man was pushed onto the Bijlmer Arena track. For this he was kicked and beaten. Videos circulating on social media showed the assault.
After the incident, Het Parool reported that shortly before the incident, the abused man allegedly kissed an underage boy on the mouth without being asked. The newspaper also announced that a report would have been filed against the still unknown victim.
