In Drenthe and Groningen, a total of 23 housing construction projects can start faster thanks to a contribution from the Startbouwimpuls (SBI). Hugo de Jonge, outgoing Minister for Housing and Spatial Planning, announced this on Monday.
The Startbouwimpuls is one of De Jonge’s measures to combat the housing crisis. It is intended for projects for which the first pile would be driven in the ground no later than 2024 or 2025, but which are in danger of being delayed or postponed due to changing economic circumstances.
This time, 246 municipalities with a combined 260,000 homes registered for this much-needed boost. Ultimately, 145 municipalities received a contribution, so that the construction of more than 31,000 homes can start more quickly. The municipalities are spread throughout the country.
Construction for the majority of the houses will start next year
In Groningen, 15 housing projects won prizes spread over 7 municipalities (Eemsdelta, Groningen, Midden-Groningen, Oldambt, Pekela, Veendam, Westerkwartier). In Drenthe, this concerns 8 projects in 5 municipalities (Aa en Hunze, Hoogeveen, Meppel, Midden-Drenthe, Tynaarlo). In Groningen this concerns 339 and in Drenthe 225 homes. Construction for the majority of the houses will start next year.
The starting subsidy, which amounts to approximately 10,000 euros per home, is gratefully accepted by municipalities. But in the construction world, support is widely regarded as a drop in the ocean.
About 80 percent of new homes fall into the ‘affordable’ category. Through the SBI contribution, De Jonge is trying to limit the dip in housing construction. He announced it on Monday during Public Housing Day.
