In the night from Friday to Saturday, the police had to pursue a vehicle with a 36-year-old Dutch soldier who was driving drunk. The crazy ride ended in Kinrooi, Belgium, not far across the border near Weert. The driver was arrested.
The Dutch police started the chase from Thorn in Limburg on Friday evening around a quarter past eleven. The police signaled the driver to stop, but he ignored it. Over the next fifteen minutes, the driver repeatedly ignored stop signs and took major risks by driving wrong-way.
The chase ended in Ophoven near Kinrooi, when the vehicle came to a stop and the driver fled on foot. Dutch police units started a search in the area and found the suspect hiding in the bushes.
After a brief foot chase, the suspect resisted arrest but was eventually subdued by police. The Belgian police took over the suspect and carried out the arrest. His 34-year-old female co-driver was also arrested.
Further investigation revealed that the 36-year-old driver is a Dutch soldier and lives in Belgium. The Royal Military Police was informed and arrived on site to investigate the matter further. The Dutch police announced this via Instagram.
