The Netherlands will contact the Russian authorities after a cameraman and journalist from the NOS were arrested in Moscow on Saturday. This is what outgoing Minister Hanke Bruins Slot (Foreign Affairs, CDA) told the ANP news agency. According to her, a response from the Netherlands to the arrest is inevitable. She could not yet say in what form the Netherlands will respond.

Bruins Slot calls it “very worrying” that the journalists have been arrested and says that her ministry is in close contact with the NOS. “As a journalist you just have to be able to do your job well. Without running the risk of ending up in prison.”

More than twenty journalists were arrested in Moscow on Saturday morning. All arrested journalists are now said to have been released. According to NOS, the reporters and cameramen were taken away in arrest vans and had to show their papers at a police station. The journalists reported on a meeting organized by military wives. They demanded the return of their husbands from the front in Ukraine.
