THIRD DIVISIONKloetinge did not win the first home game of 2024 in the third division on Saturday. In a match that only started after halftime, coach Jurriaan van Poelje’s team had to make do with a point. Against OSS’20 it became 1-1.
It had been almost two months since Kloetinge played in front of its own audience in the third division. That last home game was also a special one. Not only because the Zeelanders won it 1-0, but also because the team bus of opponent Meerssen was put on the side of the road by the police that afternoon and the kick-off of the game was therefore postponed.
That was not the case on Saturday against OSS’20. The kick-off took place at 3 p.m. in Kloetinge, although the match got off to a slow start after that. Both teams were unable to hurt each other or falter in the slightest before halftime. The first chance for Kloetinge only came after the break, but Jefry Dijkstra met the keeper in the 50th minute.
Chances and goals
After that moment the match came more and more to life. Mitchell Paul Baptist, who will finish the season at Kloetinge, had two good chances and Ruben de Jager also created a threat. But it was in the 64th minute that OSS’20 took the lead. From a corner, Jarno Abbel headed in at the far post. The people from Brabant could only enjoy this for four minutes, as De Jager equalized with a great bang in the 68th minute.
After the 1-1 draw, Kloetinge still had opportunities to take the win, just like in the last home match against Meerssen in December. Zenya Deurloo’s goal attempt missed the target and Dijkstra’s effort was saved five minutes before the end because he waited just too long to shoot. As a result, Kloetinge’s first home match this year ended in a draw.
