On the eve of King’s Day, the final finishing touches are put into place. In the final episode of our TV series Drenthe turns Orange we witness the final preparations in the run-up to the royal visit.

Is it still connected to something? Or is Emmen still working on the finishing touches? We asked Mayor Eric van Oosterhout and took a look at apartment residents on Raadhuisplein. Tomorrow they will sit in the front row and see a large main stage rise in their front garden.

We also spoke to NOS director Jan de Roode. The broadcaster will report on the royal visit tomorrow. What does that involve? And how is Emmen viewed from Hilversum?

In section Back in time we delved into the history of royal visits to Drenthe. The head of state will come to Emmen tomorrow, he has been to our province before. And that often took a surprising turn…

We also took to the streets again, this time in Assen. How do they view the king in the provincial capital? “Willem-Alexander and Máxima, remain yourself,” was a frequently heard message. We also let Assen residents sip the orange bitters. “Tasty is different!”
