Several flights from Rotterdam airport were significantly delayed this afternoon after a suitcase with suspicious contents was lost somewhere at the airport. The suitcase was checked in as checked baggage and rejected through the scanner.

“That happens more often,” says a spokesperson for the airport, “usually it concerns a curling iron or other electrical device that we still have to check carefully. But this suitcase accidentally ended up among the other luggage, so everything had to be checked again. become.”

The result: three planes that were already ready for departure had to be emptied so that all hold baggage could be scanned again. Three other aircraft were also delayed because the luggage that was being loaded there had to go through the scanner again.

In total, several hundred suitcases had to be checked again. The affected flights were delayed by approximately one or two hours. Too bad, said the spokesperson, “but safety comes first.”
