GS response to the Speech from the Throne: ‘Groningen offers solutions for the major problems’

Groningen can offer solutions for the major problems that the Netherlands is currently facing. That is what the provincial executive (GS) says in a response to the Speech from the Throne.

The Commission has indicated that it would like to sit down with the cabinet to tackle the problems jointly. Because the future of the Netherlands begins in Groningen, according to GS.

Important topics

The province wants to play an important role in making industry more sustainable and the application of hydrogen as a new form of energy. There is also room for new homes, tourism and culture. According to the Commission, the Groningen Care Agreement, an agreement between 18 parties that want to improve the future of care in the earthquake area, serves as an example for the rest of the country. Groningen also wants to make every effort to reduce nitrogen and CO2 emissions.

Prince’s Day breakfast

The third Tuesday of September started for GS in museum Escher in the Palace in The Hague, with the northern Prinsjesdagon bite. This event has been organized on Prinsjesdag for a number of years, prior to the Speech from the Throne. The GS councils of the three provinces are present, as are members of the Northern House of Representatives. The breakfast is mainly intended to bring attention to themes important to the North in The Hague in a relaxed atmosphere, such as gas extraction and a good train connection between the Northern Netherlands and the Randstad.
