The exploration of a heat transport pipeline between industry in the Eemshaven and Delfzijl, via a number of villages to the city of Groningen, is another step further.

This heat transport pipeline would enable a considerable number of homes to be rid of natural gas. This concerns homes in the city of Groningen, but also in various villages of the municipalities of Het Hogeland and Eemsdelta that lie along the pipeline. Directors of the province, Gasunie, Enpuls, Warmtestad, Groningen Seaports and the municipalities of Eemsdelta, Het Hogeland and Groningen have signed a letter of intent. This marks the start of the next phase of the feasibility study.

Sustainable heat

The heat transport pipeline is intended to provide homes with sustainable heat via heat networks. This concerns residual heat from companies in the Eemshaven and industrial area Oosterhorn, but also from local heat sources. If the project proves to be feasible and affordable, the heat transport pipeline can contribute to sustainable, reliable heating and an energy bill that is affordable for residents from about 2030.
