The police have broken up a drug lab on the Cruquiusweg in East. A considerable amount of narcotics was found there, namely 70 kilos of ketamine. A 49-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested near the lab.

The police discovered the lab through an inspection by supervisors of the North Sea Canal Area Environment Agency. They came to take a look at a car rental company on the site.

The police dismantled the lab and destroyed the drugs. During the investigation it turned out that it was probably a lab in which ketamine was produced. A car, ten telephones, a mobile phone tracker and several jerry cans containing ethanol were also seized.

Ketamine is not on the list of drugs in the Opium Act. The 49-year-old man is therefore seen as a suspect under the Medicines Act and the Economic Offenses Act for preparing and storing medicines without a license and registration. The man is being brought before the examining magistrate. More arrests are not ruled out by the police.
