It seems like an unlikely but genius combination: the legendary John Carpenter and the iconic Godzilla! A recent video suggests that the director is teaming up with Godzilla’s “administrators,” but what are they going to make together? They don’t tell you (yet).
The video shows Carpenter entering an empty movie theater and watching a film, which is projected out of the viewer’s field of view. We do hear sounds, which must come from Godzilla.
The message also mentions the distributors Shout Factory and Scream Factory, along with the streaming service TokuSHOUTsu. It seems to hold great promise to Godzilla fans that something very special is imminent for them.
Very enthusiastic fans
The video has sparked a lot of online speculation as to what this astonishing combination could lead to. Some think that the “Gorgo vs. Godzilla” fan movie, which Carpenter made when he was very young, will finally get a release. Others suspect it will just be a new release of the old Godzilla movies on TokuSHOUTsu.
Or will Carpenter venture into another remake of the Japanese monster story? The creators of the Monsterverse have not yet explicitly commented on the video. They are now busy shooting the Godzilla vs. Kong, and have not yet disclosed anything about the future of the giant reptile.
