The land was seized on May 12 by the Functional Public Prosecutor’s Office, part of the Public Prosecution Service, as can be read on investigative journalism platform Follow the Money. According to a sanctions expert, this means that the plot is part of a criminal investigation.

The reason for the seizure is unknown, writes FTM. However, Faassen was recently questioned at Schiphol because of a suspicion of sanction evasion. That reports Smellsan independent Russian investigative journalism platform.

According to FTM, Faassen bought the 1,432 m² piece of land in Duivendrecht in 2013 and applied for a permit in 2021 for the construction of a residential house and six small office buildings. The municipality is said to have halted the permit procedure in 2022, after the invasion of Ukraine, because of the close ties between Faassen and Putin. The ground is currently fallow.
