Sam Altman, who was fired as director at OpenAI on Friday, already has a new job. He goes to work at Microsoft and will be in charge of a team that focuses on artificial intelligence.
Altman’s move to Microsoft was announced by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He writes that he is very pleased that Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, who also left OpenAI, are joining Microsoft.
Altman himself responded briefly. “The mission continues,” he writes on X. He may be referring to his mission at OpenAI “to develop artificial intelligence that advances humanity.”
On Friday it was announced that Altman had been fired from the maker of AI chatbot ChatGPT. The board said it no longer had confidence that Altman could lead the company. After the resignation announcement, Brockman also left the company.
Microsoft is OpenAI’s main investor. The company invested billions in the start-up. Nadella says it remains committed to working with the developer of AI applications.
