Branco van den Boomen is not available for Ajax for the time being. The Ajax midfielder had surgery on his left knee last Friday and is now working on his recovery at Sportpark de Toekomst. Ajax cannot yet indicate how long Van den Boomen will be out of action, although the midfielder himself indicates that he will be able to join again after the winter break.
Opposite Ajax.nl Van den Boomen gives text and explanation about his injury. ‘Unfortunately my knee continued to bother me, it’s nice that I was able to have surgery quickly. A period of rehabilitation has now started for me. If that goes as expected, I will be able to participate with the team again after the winter break in the preparation for the second half of the season.’
Van ‘t Schip already feared an operation
Van den Boomen suffered his injury in the home match against SC Heerenveen. He played out that match, but in the days that followed it turned out that he had suffered a knee injury. Trainer John van ‘t Schip previously expressed the hope that the injury would not be too bad, although he feared surgery. That operation has now taken place, meaning Van den Boomen will no longer play for Ajax this calendar year.
The midfielder came over on a free transfer from French side Toulouse FC last summer. For Van den Boomen it is his second period at Ajax. He previously played in Ajax’s youth academy and signed a three-year contract at the age of sixteen. After his contract expired, he left for FC Eindhoven. He then played for sc Heerenveen, Willem II, again FC Eindhoven, De Graafschap and then Toulouse FC. He won the French cup tournament at the latter club last season. This season he played fifteen games for Ajax, in which he scored two goals and one assist.
