Two Amsterdam residents, aged 66 and 18, were arrested by the police in Alkmaar last night. The two behaved suspiciously in a city street where there had recently been an explosion. The 18-year-old threw a bag into the bushes that turned out to contain heavy fireworks. The 66-year-old man was the driver who dropped him off in the street. The police in Alkmaar are extra sharp due to an explosion wave.

The pair were arrested in Lekstraat, the street is one of the four streets that the mayor of Alkmaar has designated as a safety risk area. In the area, people can be searched preventively by the police, there is extra surveillance and cameras have been installed. According to NH Nieuws, there have been seventeen explosions in one of the designated areas in the past period.

On a camera that was placed this week, the police could see that the 18-year-old man was dropped off in Lekstraat around 1 a.m. and was behaving suspiciously there. Officers who went towards the young man saw him throw a bag into the bushes. The man was arrested and the officers found the bag in the bushes, including a Cobra 6.

The 66-year-old motorist was also arrested. A police spokesperson tells NH Nieuws that the role of the 66-year-old man is not yet completely clear. “We are conducting further research into this.”
