Peter Jansen, the former bassist and booker of the Brabant band WC Experience, has died at the age of 75. The party band from Raamsdonksveer has been one of the most popular dialect bands in the Netherlands since 1989.
Jansen was the bassist for 25 years, but also did the administration and bookings. He suffered from Lewy body dementia and had been ill for several years. His bandmates are sad about his death, they wrote in a statement.
“Until a few months ago, he remained intensively involved on the sidelines. Peter could not miss our music. He saw it as ‘his band’ until the last day and often came to our performances with his wife,” the band writes. Facebook.
Covers and hits
The West Brabant band started with covers of well-known songs with comic lyrics in dialect. The band itself baptized their style as ‘Rock ‘n Loll’, writes Omroep Brabant. Later WC Experience also wrote its own songs, of which Can I smoke here? and Pancake are probably the best known.
Three of the band’s singles became modest hits (Is everybody grumpy??!, Jansen and Chatterpolonaise) and reached the Mega top 100. WC Experience released 18 albums in 35 years and performed throughout the country. The band is a welcome guest at festivals such as Paaspop and Zwarte Cross.
