The man who was arrested on Saturday after the hostage situation in a café in Ede had been convicted of a death threat in December last year. The Gelderland court confirmed this after reporting the Gelderlander.

According to the newspaper, 28-year-old Edenaar had threatened two officers with a firearm. The court spokesperson cannot confirm this.

The man was sentenced to 120 days in prison. Of these, 103 days were conditional, meaning he was released after more than two weeks. The suspended prison sentence was subject to a probationary period of three years.

After the conviction, the man had to report to the probation service. He also had to undergo treatment.

During the hostage situation in Ede, four employees of Café Petticoat were held for hours. The hostage situation started around 5:15 am and ended shortly before 1:00 pm.

On Saturday afternoon, the Public Prosecution Service already reported that the man was known to the judiciary. But spokespeople did not know when he had been convicted and how long he had been free.

In any case, he is suspected of unlawful deprivation of liberty for the hostage situation. Whether further suspicions arise remains to be seen after investigation. The man’s pre-trial detention was extended by two weeks on Saturday.
