Mega job started around Tilburg station: no trains for 15 days

A mega job will start around Tilburg station on Sunday. There will be no trains running there for exactly 15 days due to work on the track and the station. The NS uses around 150 buses.

The impact? “It is of course very large,” says ProRail spokesperson Joke van der Cruysen. “It is really annoying for the traveler. We combine activities as much as possible, so that it is really done afterwards.”

From Sunday April 28 to Monday morning May 13, ProRail will work around Tilburg station and Tilburg University. This means that no train traffic is possible from, via and to Tilburg.

In addition, work is being done on the track between Tilburg and Breda and Tilburg and Vught. Work is also taking place at Gilze-Rijen station. This is all deliberately done largely during the May holidays.

NS will deploy buses from April 28 to May 12

  • Express buses between Breda – Tilburg – ‘s-Hertogenbosch
  • Stop buses between Oisterwijk – Tilburg – Tilburg University
  • Stop buses between Boxtel and Oisterwijk
  • Stop buses between Tilburg – Tilburg University – Tilburg Reeshof – Gilze-Rijen – Breda

On Monday, May 13, NS will deploy express buses and stop buses between Tilburg and Breda. The NS advises you to consult the travel planner.

Students are not happy with the measure. “Very stupid, because I have to go to lectures. I have to write my thesis. It takes me an hour by bus,” says student Jenske Robberegt (21) from Den Bosch. 19-year-old Charlotte van de Stro from Breda: “It just sucks. There are always delays or work.”

Kasper van der Heijden (18) from Eindhoven is also disappointed with the situation. He has a driving test in two weeks and will therefore have extra driving lessons in the evening next week. “I had planned it in such a way that it worked out well with school, but because I now have to travel an hour longer, I can no longer make it.” According to Kasper, rescheduling driving lessons is no longer possible at this time. “So unfortunately I now miss lectures.”

What are they going to do?
The steep stairs to the platforms at Tilburg station are being replaced. Someone falls off that regularly. Platform 4 will also be completed and platform 1 renovated.

Platform 1 at Tilburg University station is being completely renovated. There will be new paving, lighting, cameras and a new public address system. In addition, ProRail is replacing portals for the overhead lines and the ramp of platforms 2 and 3 will be completely renovated.

Does it have to take that long? Well, there’s still a lot of work to be done. Renewing rails and contact wires of the overhead line. This happens again between Tilburg University and Breda and between Tilburg and Vught. There will be no trains between Tilburg and Breda on Monday, May 13.

10 years of renovation
“This brings us almost to the end of 10 years of renovation of Tilburg station,” says Van der Cruysen. “It’s really a milestone.”

The station received a new passage in 2015 and the ‘prawn cracker roof’ has been renovated. The bicycle sheds were renovated in 2020 and 2021. Some work will still be carried out in the coming years, but for the traveler this will be less visible and far-reaching.
