Three people were injured in a shooting in Groningen city center last night. Two of them have been taken to hospital.

Reports are circulating on social media that someone has died, but the police cannot confirm this.

The shooting was on Haddinge Street. Images on Dumpert show that the shooter is being attacked by several men. Beer bottles are also thrown at him.

The suspect picks up a weapon and shoots his assailants five times. It is clear to see how one of them falls directly to the ground while others try to take cover.

The suspect was on the run for a while, but was soon arrested, police said on Twitter. He has been brought to the station for questioning.

The report of the shooting came in to police around 8 p.m. A trauma team landed with a helicopter on the Grote Markt to assist the ambulance personnel with the emergency services.

Burden of ‘dealers’

A local resident tells RTV Noord that he heard explosions and told his wife that shots were being fired. He heard that an argument in the street preceded it. “What I heard is that ten men went after one man. He felt threatened, cornered. Then he took a gun from his car and fired at the group.”

It is often restless in Haddingestraat. On Thursday, two drug dealers were arrested in a cafe. Just before that, they were selling drugs on the street. “We have had problems with dealers here for years. It is time that the neighborhood is cleaned up, that all the rubbish is cleared up,” says the local resident.
