Kat floods new town hall Dokkum: more than 10,000 euros in damage | Remarkable

A cat has caused a lot of damage to the town hall of Dokkum, which was almost finished after months of renovations. The animal opened a tap, which flooded the building “a few centimeters”. The costs exceed 10,000 euros.

The cat snuck into the new town hall of the Frisian Dokkum last Friday. The animal crawled through a hole on one of the floors and opened the tap of a pipe.

When a contractor came by the next day, he found a chair full of cat hair and several rooms flooded by several inches. Moisture had also soaked into the walls and furniture, and the water was leaking into the parking garage. The concrete floor must dry well, but is not irreparably damaged.

Last week, construction workers were busy cleaning up the havoc. The official opening on May 22 will take place, although 35 of the 183 workplaces cannot yet be used. Alderman Bert Koonstra says to the Leeuwarder Courant that the damage is between 10,000 and 20,000 euros.

The cat has since been found and evicted from the building. “In Downing Street they have Larry the cat. We apparently have Doerak the hangover here,” says Koonstra.
