Bayern Munich escaped its first home defeat in more than a year on Tuesday. ‘Der Rekordmeister’ seemed to lose to FC Köln in front of its own audience, but came alongside in the absolute final phase via a nice goal from Joshua Kimmich: 1-1. RB Leipzig won easily at Schalke 04 (1-6) earlier in the day.

FC Köln midfielder Ellyes Skhiri thought for a long time that he had scored the only goal of the match in Munich after four minutes. Kimmich only equalized in the ninetieth minute with a nice long shot, which fell in via the underside of the crossbar.

Thanks to Kimmich’s goal, Bayern extend their unbeaten run at home. The German top club lost on January 7, 2022 (1-2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach) for the last time in the Allianz Arena. Then Yann Sommer, who has been playing for Bayern since this winter, made six more saves on behalf of the visitors.

Matthijs de Ligt played the entire match against FC Köln, the number ten in the Bundesliga. Ryan Gravenberch came in after the break and hit the post. Daley Blind watched the entire game from the bench and has to postpone his official debut.

Olmo steals the show at Schalke-Leipzig

At Schalke-Leipzig it was already 0-4 halfway through. Dani Olmo was the big man at RB Leipzig. After André Silva’s opening goal, the Spaniard introduced the hits by Benjamin Henrichs (0-2), Silva (0-3) and Timo Werner (0-4).

After the break, Olmo underlined his strong performance with a fabulous goal. The playmaker kept the peace in a busy penalty area and knocked Schalke 04 goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow with a nice lob. Soichiro Kozuki saved the honor on behalf of Schalke and Yussuf Poulsen put the final score on the board.

Due to the resounding victory of RB Leipzig and the draw of Bayern, the difference between those two teams has shrunk to four points. Both teams played a draw (1-1) at the restart of the Bundesliga last weekend.

As in the first round after the winter break, VfL Wolfsburg delivered a remarkable performance. With Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, the club won 0-5 against Croatian coach Niko Kovac at Hertha BSC. Wolfsburg already lashed out against SC Freiburg (6-0) last weekend.
