Liverpool have lost expensive points in the battle for the Premier League title. Jürgen Klopp’s team lost 0-2 away to city rivals Everton.

It was Everton’s first win over Liverpool at Goodison Park since 2010 (!).

Leader Arsenal won yesterday with resounding figures against Chelsea (5-0). And so the difference in points is now three between Arsenal and number two Liverpool, with four games to play. Manchester City is four points behind, but also has two games in hand.

Several media reported today that Liverpool has officially reported to Feyenoord for Arne Slot. The club sees the Dutch trainer as the ideal successor to Klopp, who will say goodbye after this season as manager at the club of Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo.

Klopp, who has been Liverpool’s coach since 2015, hopes to be able to say goodbye to the English championship. But the competition is fierce with Arsenal and Manchester City continuing to pick up points.

In the Merseyside Derby against Everton, Liverpool had a very difficult time. Liverpool, with only Van Dijk in the starting line-up, could not make a fist. After 27 minutes, the defenders had difficulty clearing the ball from their own penalty area, after which former PSV player Jarrad Branthwaite scored with the inside of his foot. In the second half Dominic Calvert-Lewin also scored from a header: 2-0.

Manchester United

Manchester United achieved a difficult victory at home at Old Trafford against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United. Erik ten Hag’s team turned a deficit into a 4-2 win.

Jayden Bogle fortunately gave Sheffield the lead in the first half after a blunder by goalkeeper André Onana. The former Ajax goalkeeper tried to play in defender Dalot, but overlooked Bogle and he was able to finish this golden opportunity.

Soon afterwards, Harry Maguire headed home from a cross from Alejandro Garnacho.

In the second half, Sheffield almost immediately took the lead again. Ben Osborn scored after a clever attack set up by Dutchman Gustavo Hamer.

United had to chase again. But the club did succeed, with success. It received a penalty that Bruno Fernandes saved: 2-2. And ten minutes before the end, Ten Hag’s team also scored the winner. Once again it was the Portuguese Fernandes who placed the ball in the right corner from a good distance. Rasmus Hojlund scored the fourth, assisted by Fernandes.
