According to head coach Xavi, Barcelona is not considering selling Frenkie de Jong. During the press moment on Sunday before the home match against Valencia on Monday evening, the coach was asked questions about the sporting future of the 26-year-old Dutchman.

“For me, De Jong is a key player,” said Xavi, who last week reversed his decision to quit as Barcelona coach. “Nothing has changed at all, he is crucial to me.”

Reason for the topic Frenkie de Jong during the press moment there was a report in the Madrid newspaper ASH in which it was claimed that the Catalans want to sell the ex-Ajax player, who represents a significant transfer value for the financially ailing Barcelona.

De Jong’s contract with Barcelona runs for another two years. The Dutch international is in his fifth season at Camp Nou.

“Frenkie has been unfortunate with injuries, but his level has always been excellent,” said Xavi. ‘I consider Frenkie as a crucial player.’
