The chance that Ajax supporters will be able to embrace former crowd favorite again next summer seems to have increased slightly due to the news that ESPN UK brings out. The 32-year-old Dane has a contract with Manchester United that runs until mid-2025, but according to the broadcaster is one of the players who can look forward to a new employer.

In 2009, Ajax picked the Dane as a teenager from the youth academy of Odense BK in his homeland. Just a year later, in January 2010, then coach Martin Jol gave him his debut in the main squad. After Jol’s dismissal, Eriksen grew into a decisive player, especially under his successor, Frank de Boer. The Dane was part of the selection for the first three of the four consecutive national titles that Ajax would win under the former defender.

In the summer of 2013, Tottenham Hotspur struck and moved Eriksen to North London for around fourteen million euros. After six and a half successful seasons, a move to Internazionale followed. However, Eriksen’s Italian adventure came to an early end after the 2020 European Championship, which was played a year later due to the corona pandemic. In the opening match against Finland, Eriksen collapsed, to everyone’s dismay, with what later turned out to be cardiac arrest. Fortunately, he was resuscitated in time and Eriksen was even able to resume his football career due to the installation of a locker. However, playing with such a device is not allowed in Italy, so a switch to Brentford offered a solution. There Eriksen came into the spotlight of Manchester United, where Erik ten Hag had just been appointed as the new trainer.

In his first season in Manchester, Eriksen was able to play frequently, but that is not always the case in the current season. The Dane has only completed 90 minutes six times in all competitions, and should therefore be looking for a new employer. ESPN knows that United management wants to let Eriksen go, although a transfer fee will have to be put on the table. Ajax was linked to the former player in February of this year by journalist Ekrem Konur. However, there are said to be more privateers on the coast: ESPN speaks of ‘interest from Turkey’.
