FC Twente Women seem to be champions this season despite the misstep against FC Utrecht Women. A special achievement, according to technical manager René Roord.
FC Twente is a major player in the Netherlands when it comes to women’s football. “Ajax and PSV have been saying for years that they are passing us by. Financially and in terms of the club, that should have been done a long time ago,” says Roord in Football International. “I think that’s a nice game, it’s nice that it hasn’t worked out yet. That’s why the nerves are increasing. The lead causes pressure, although that of course doesn’t make sense.”
Roord believes that FC Twente Women should always compete for the championship, although he realizes that it is not realistic to actually achieve this every season. “You can’t demand that, I think. Twente has to become even more of a professional club in everything, that is the constant goal,” he explains. “This also includes the new accommodation, which we will move into in the summer of 2025. That really has to be the case, otherwise I won’t be able to keep it up. We have everything, but I don’t think it’s top-club worthy. The bar has to keep rising, we want to the European bottom and then stunt.”
