Former Red Bull Racing engineer Blake Hinsey has debunked a remarkable rumor that came over from Spain. According to the platform motor.es Mercedes would consider going to the FIA because the Silver Arrows have found something suspicious about Ferrari’s accelerator pedal, but this is impossible, according to Hinsey.

The accelerator pedal of the Italian superpower was briefly discussed after Charles Leclerc suddenly ended up in the wall in France from a leading position. Immediately after his crash, the Monegask shouted over the radio that something was wrong with his pedal, but not much later – literally and figuratively cooled down a bit – he told the press that he had made a mistake himself. Ferrari also indicated that the cause of the crash had been a fault by Leclerc.

The Spanish motor.es wrote a few days later that Mercedes would not have trusted the situation completely, and therefore would have analyzed the public data of the crash with its own software. This would have shown that Leclerc had already taken his foot off the accelerator just before the crash, but that the car continued to accelerate. This is not directly against the regulations, but Mercedes would have had doubts about the situation, according to the platform.

Mercedes would therefore consider going to the FIA, although they would see that the ‘evidence’ would make little impression as it would have been manufactured by their own software. motor.es provides little support for these claims, but the story has already made the rounds on the internet. That’s how it ended up with Hinsey. He has worked as a performance engineer at Red Bull Racing and Force India, among others.

Debunked

He made short work of the matter via Twitter: “The source alleges that Mercedes used a model to mimic Ferrari’s data and would have determined that Ferrari may be using traction control,” it reads. “The frequency of that data is far too low to perform such an analysis. Absolute nonsense.”
