Developer Fast Travel Games announces Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game, a VR spin-off of the 4X RTS franchise Stellaris, in a trailer. The game is coming exclusively to Meta Quest 2 ‘early 2023’.
According to the developer, Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game is a ‘VR action game with rogueliteelements that take place in space’. In the game, players take control of the spaceship Aurora and set out in search of the titular ghost signal, a reference to an impactful event from the Stellaris games, according to PC Gamer. As the trailer also shows, space battles and planet-sized aliens are involved.
The game uses elements of the roguelike genre, a game format that usually focuses on ‘randomly’ generated game environments and losing your character permanently. In the roguelike subgenre, the parameters tend to be a bit more forgiving and the player retains some of his progression even after dying.
In Ghost Signal, that roguelite principle seems to have been worked out in, among other things, upgrading the spaceship. The world is also ‘randomized’. It’s not clear if, and if so in what way, Paradox Interactives Stellaris’ signature deep strategy elements should show up in the spin-off.
