With videoJermaine Wattimena has been eliminated in the first round of the World Cup. The Northern Irish debutant Nathan Rafferty (22) was too strong for 3-2 The Machine Gun. And that caused a very bitter pill for the Dutchman.

It came to the decisive fifth set at Alexandra Palace on Friday evening. Wattimena was eager to get revenge after last year’s disappointing World Cup, when he went down 3-0 to Boris Koltsov in the first round. Against Rafferty, Wattimena alternated mediocre innings with great innings. He made it 2-2 in the fourth set after a 108 finish and a 101 finish.

In the fifth set it still went wrong for Wattimena, who recently showed that he was in good shape at the Grand Slam of Darts. The Dutchman had a lot of bad luck in the fifth set. At 0-0 he threw his arrow into the flight of his other arrow while trying to throw 120.

It then took a while for Rafferty to finish, but the Northern Irishman finally took his first World Cup victory ever, as Wattimena failed to finish the opportunities offered. The debutant may compete in the second round against fourth-seeded Michael Smith.

In front of the camera via play stood a disillusioned Wattimena. “What can I blame myself for? A lot. Everything. What do you want to hear?”, said the Dutchman, before the interview was immediately broken off.
