Two people were seriously injured in an accident on the A6 near Lelystad on Thursday night. As a result, the highway between Lelystad-Noord and Lelystad was closed. Rijkswaterstaat reports this. Only the left lane is now closed.

The delay is in a southerly direction. Traffic jams arose on the highway and on roads in the area.

Midnight
The accident happened just after midnight. A truck and a passenger car then collided. Salvage work had been going on for a long time.

The road was partly reopened around 6:30 am. A spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat cannot say why it took hours to clear the highway. However, recovering a truck is always more difficult than recovering a car.

To hospital
The two seriously injured people were taken to hospital. It appears the car crashed into the back of the truck. Photos show that there is a lot of damage to the car.

In addition to the police and ambulance, the fire brigade was also called. It is unclear whether they had to free people from the car or truck. The cause of the accident is also unknown.

Take a detour
During the closure, motorists were advised to take a detour via Zwolle and Amersfoort on the N50, A28 and A1. This does mean that motorists spend a lot longer on the road.
